Nonlinear Dynamics of a FPSO and Shuttle Vessel in Tandem Configuration

The dynamical behavior of a FPSO system in a tandem configuration with a shuttle vessel under the action of wind and current forces can be quite complex. In order to obtain a general view of the problem, an overall picture of the dynamics involved is obtained through a systematic numerical study of equilibria and their stability properties. Environmental parameters such as wind and current speed and incidence angles are varied within relevant ranges. These results are summarized in suitable bifurcation diagrams. The engineering robustness of stable solutions is assessed and the corresponding basins of attraction are depicted.
